Frequently
Asked Questions
-
WHAT IS WIMBA?
Wimba is an web-based online learning platform that allows us to
offer you the convenience of live online training from the comfort of
your library.
-
DO I HAVE TO REGISTER
AND PAY FOR THESE WORKSHOPS? We will ask for registration for
online workshops, and workshops will be advertised on our
calendar and on our
Continuing Education page.
Many of the workshops will be short "tech talks" and will be free.
Others will be longer and there will be a small charge. When you
register you will receive instructions for setting up your computer and
for logging in the day of the workshop.
-
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO
BEFORE I ATTEND
A TRAINING:
Before attending any
Wimba Classroom event you should first walk through the
Setup Wizard. Do this at any time before attending your first Wimba
session (live or archived)--you won’t need to do
it again. The Wizard will ensure you have the software
and configuration you need to see and hear the presentation.
Click here for complete instructions on
preparing your computer for Wimba-based webinars.
-
HOW DO I LOG IN THE DAY OF THE
WORKSHOP? To log in,
simply follow these instructions.
-
DO I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD AND
INSTALL ANY PROGRAMS?
No, but you do to run the
Setup Wizard which may download a small applet. Depending on
the level of security on your pc you may need to have your IT dept log
in with admin authority. But in most cases you should be able to
run the wizard and do setup with no trouble!
-

REQUIREMENTS BESIDES RUNNING THE SETUP WIZARD?

-
DO I HAVE TO HAVE A HEADSET?
OR SPEAKERS? OR A MICROPHONE?
-
A headset is highly
recommended, but is not necessary. Headsets vary
in price and quality. A good headset that is affordable,
comfortable and high quality is this
Logitech model.
-
Speakers/Microphone is
the next best choice if do not have access to a headset.
-
Speakers/No Microphone
is also an option. You will be able to hear the presentation
but won't be able to speak. You will still be able to ask
questions and make comments in the text chat box.
-
Phone Option:
Finally, there is an option to dial in on the phone for full audio
participation. The number is in the 201 area code and regular
toll charges will apply. If your toll charges are 10
cents/minute, your cost will only be $6.00 for a one hour webinar or
$12.00 for a two hour webinar. Still quite a bargain!
The Phone option is:
