  • Do teen volunteers help in your library?  (for example, shelving, story times, reading buddies, teaching technology or gaming, etc.)
  • Do you organize and/or supervise teens for volunteer projects to benefit the general community? (for example, making quilts for hospital patients; meals for homeless; mentoring seniors, etc.)
  • Do you work with a teen whose contribution to the library and community deserves recognition?

One of your teen volunteers could be the 2008 SJRLC Teen Volunteer of the Year!

What’s in it for them?

  • Awards presentation in Trenton
  • Recognition of their work by legislators, parents, peers, library, school, and potential colleges/employers.
  • $500 grand prize savings bond and $150 savings bonds to runners-up courtesy of EBSCO Publishing.

And for you recognition of your volunteer and your organization.

Please help us to recognize the great contributions that South Jersey  teens are making with the support of your organizations. We’d like to have the biggest awards ceremony ever with librarians, teachers, parents, and all of your teen volunteers invited.

Complete information including nomination flyer and cover sheet are available at http://sjrlcaplus.pbwiki.com/Teen+Volunteer+Award

Nominations are due by March 14th. It’s easy to nominate, but the time to get started is now. We look forward to hearing from you.

NJ Medical Librarians Offer Supplemental Resource Services.

Many member hospital libraries of the Health Sciences Library Association of NJ (HSLANJ) provide supplemental reference services to public, school, academic and special libraries using their specialized expertise and resources to answer medical and health related questions.

A list of member libraries that provide this service may be found on the HSLANJ website at http://www.hslanj.org/hslanjpublic.html.  Libraries are listed by county.  Those marked with an asterisk will handle inquiries from any library in the state. A click on the link for the name of the organization provides contact and descriptive information about the library.

If you have questions about this service, contact one of the libraries on the list of participants, or contact Micki McIntyre at the UMDNJ Health Sciences Library in Stratford (856-566-6936 or mcintyre@umdnj.edu

We have been able to extend our subscription for access to NOVELIST readers’ advisory service to include two-year colleges. For information on NOVELIST, see www.epnet.com/public/novelist.asp.

NOVELIST is now available at no cost to Public Libraries (through State Library contract), as well as school and two-year college libraries (SJRLC funding).  We will be contacting two-year colleges directly for set-up and putting out additional information on the listserv for those who wish to establish direct links from individual library home pages.
