New Procedures for Book Evaluation |
Welcome back book evaluators. As we begin our first book
eval meetings for 2005-2006 there are a few new procedures to discuss.
-
Book Eval has going paperless! We are now using the NJ State Library's online Book Review System at:
http://www.njyac.org/bookeval.
-
All reviews will be entered online by logging in at:
http://www.njyac.org/bookeval/login.php
and typing (or cutting/pasting) your reviews.
-
Your username is your last name followed by your first
initial (i.e. brombergp, bakera.) Your password has been set to
bookeval but you are encouraged to change this when you first log in.
-
We will no longer be sending paper reviews directly to
the publishers. Publishers are being informed that they can search
book reviews at
http://www.njyac.org/bookeval/search.php. Other regional book
evaluation groups have been doing it this way for a while. The publishers
do not object.
-
Books will be tracked by each individual
in West and South groups.
-
Each reviewer is asked to maintain and update a
tracking sheet that lists the
number of books that you select and return for review. (The Coordinator will
maintain the tracking sheets for people who review by CD&L). The list will
detail only the number of books taken and the number of books returned.
-
The
tracking sheet is updated at each
meeting and turned in to the meeting moderator. The moderator will
then forward all tracking sheets back to the Coordinator. At the
beginning of each meeting, the tracking sheets will be given back to
reviewers for updating.
-
You may select half of the books you review
to keep immediately. After the other half of your books are
reviewed and returned at the next meeting or delivery, please put a
checkmark in the upper right corner of the front fly leaf page of
the book so that the Coordinator knows it has been reviewed and you
are not keeping those books. Again, you are entitled to half of the
books you review in the online database at the time you review them.
You must send the other half back. You may have no more than 30
carryovers from each meeting or delivery.
These changes will make Book Eval coordination more
efficient and much less time consuming. If anyone is interested in
coordinating the Book Eval program in the future please contact our current Coordinator
Amy Rominiecki at arominiecki@lrhsd.org .
