Access Center/ILL FAQ
|
WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE ACCESS
CENTER? |
|
Access Center Services are being suspended
for the months of December 2003 and January 2004. The last day
to place requests with the Access Center is November 26,
however, requests that are all ready
in process will be completed. For complete
text of Scherelene Schatz's listserv posting regarding this change, please

I use the Access Center for ILL. What are
my options for ILL while the Access Center is unavailable? |
|
While the Access Center is unavailable, you
still have a number of options for ILL.
JerseyCat Options
- If you are a member of JerseyCat, you can continue to use
JerseyCat for all of your ILL needs. JerseyCat staff
will continue to process requests coming to the Access Center via
JerseyCat. At the present time, libraries add "NJAC,30" onto the
end of the lender string for the request to go to the Access
Center as the last library - If the request goes unfilled, and it
ends up at the NJAC, the request will be sent out-of-state via
OCLC. This service has been ongoing ever since JerseyCat came up.
Now it will be the only way for libraries to request out-of-state
(unless they maintain their own membership to OCLC)
- If you are not a member of JerseyCat, you are encouraged to
join. Information on joining JerseyCat is available at:
www.jerseycat.org/join
Non JerseyCat Options
- If you are not in a position to immediately join JerseyCat you may still
provide ILL service to your patrons by using the search features
of JerseyCat and the NJ Union list of Serials to identify holding
libraries, and then faxing an "ALA
request form" to potential lending libraries. Follow
these simple steps:
- Requesting Books: Use the guest search feature
of
JerseyCat to locate holding libraries.
- Requesting copies: Use the
NJ Union List
of Serials to locate holding libraries.
- Use the
"ALA
request form" and fax your request to the holding library.

WHAT IF A BOOK IS NOT LISTED ON
JERSEYCAT? HOW CAN I GET IT? |
|
If you want a book that is not listed on JerseyCat, you can still
place a request by using the "blank request form" and putting
NJAC, 30 in the lender string. Your request will be
handled by the "JerseyCat plus" staff at the State Library.
For screen shots and detailed info on this procedure, please see
these pages from the latest edition
of the JerseyCat manual.
